Grants and Awards Programs​

 

The CHF Alliance is pleased and proud to support trainees and early career investigators with access to salary awards and research seed grants. In 2023, we launched our first Trainee Awards and Early Career Investigator Grants Competition. Each year, we will look for passionate individuals who are committed to make a difference in the fight against heart failure. 

Trainee Awards Competition - Closed

CHF Alliance’s Trainee Awards aim to support students and MDs enrolled in a research fellowship who are conducting research in the filed of heart failure (HF) with a supervisor who is a member of the CHF Alliance.

​Current 2024 Awards: 

·       $20,000 awards for Master’s or PhD students

·       $30,000 awards for Postdoctoral students or MD enrolled in a research fellowship

​

Evaluation and adjudication of the application will be based on excellence of the applicant, the supervisor, the learning environment, the quality of the research project, and alignment with CHF Alliance mission and priorities.

​

​To be eligible, the following criteria must be met:

​

·       Applicants must be a student at the graduate, postdoctoral level in a Canadian University, or an MD enrolled in a research fellowship.

·       Applicants must be registered as a CHF Alliance trainee at the time of submission.

·       Supervisor must be a member of the CHF Alliance (applications will also be accepted if a CHF Alliance member signs as co-supervisor).

·       Funding must be matched 50/50 by the host University/Institution and/or external funding agencies.

·       The student’s project must be related to one of the CHF Alliance teams/themes/projects.

·       The project must be presented at a CHF Alliance meeting.

·       A final report must be submitted at the end of the funding.

​

The awards are for one year of salary support. Students will be eligible to apply again for a 2nd year of funding; however, there is no guarantee for renewed and extended funding.

​

​Available Funding: 

·       ​Two $20,000 awards for Master’s or PhD students

·       ​Two $30,000 awards for Postdoctoral students or MD enrolled in a research fellowship

·       ​There is one additional award available for a Master’s/PhD student ($20,000) and one for a Postdoctoral student ($30,000) for students enrolled at the Université de Montréal. These students are still required to provide proof of matching funding to be eligible for this award.

·       ​There is one additional award of $20,000 sponsored by Bayer Inc. for a Master's/PhD student.

 

Funding starting in September 2024 for a duration of 12 months.

Early Career Investigator Grants Competition - Closed

CHF Alliance’s Early Career Investigator Grants aim to support early career investigators who are conducting unfunded research in the filed of heart failure (HF) and who are members of the CHF Alliance.

​

​Current 2024 Grants: 

·       $25,000 grants for research funding for early career investigators

​

Evaluation and adjudication of the application will be based on quality and excellence of the research proposal and alignment with CHF Alliance mission and priorities.

​

​To be eligible, the following criteria must be met:

  • Applicants must be an early career investigator within his/her first 5 years of his/her first academic faculty appointment.

  • Applicants must be a member of the CHF Alliance.

  • The project must be related to one of the CHF Alliance teams/themes/projects.

  • The project must be unfunded at the time of application.

  • The project must be presented at a CHF Alliance meeting.

  • A final report must be submitted at the end of the funding.

​

Available funding:

  • The CHF Alliance offers 4 grants of $25,000 each for research funding.

  • Bayer Inc. sponsors one additional grant of $25,000 for research funding.

  • Novo Nordisk sponsors one additional grant of $25,000 for research funding.

​

Funding will start in September 2024 for a duration of 18 months.
